Some of us have rather long names on here and it may be tedious for others (or even ourselves, but we rarely have to) to type out the entire name. At the same time, it seems advisable to avoid offending people by using abbreviations that miss a crucial part of the person's name (see Orange Ina's clarification of a related "incident" over the weekend) or names that they just don't like.

So I thought I'd post this note and invite everyone (who cares) to comment on their preferred abbreviation. I'll put mine in the comments as well so it's not getting special treatment here (really, it's just so you can see my nifty new profile image:).

I'll start. You can call me Turquoise or TStuff or you can even call me Turq as I've warmed up to it by now. Calling me "Stuff" is probably a bit too generic, plus it's missing the wonderful color component. And how could you miss it, especially now that I have all this turquoise stuff in my profile image?!

Koda, I think you can play with people's name.. you know, under this particular thread, just 'cause that's what this particular thread is for, sort of. I have been meaning to call you Kodak, but that seems like a bit of a stretch. It just seems to want to roll off my turquoise tongue. And at that point, it's hard not to free associate to Kojak at which point I might as well just call you Baldie. But Baldie is not really a color. It sounds more like something Clear might pick as an alternative.

Scarlet, if I'm perceiving you as particular hot at one moment or another, can I call you Scarlet Fever?

Glad you like the stuff. I wasn't going for an academic theme, but now I'm realizing with the key, the coffee cup, the pin, the lamp and the apple.. sheesh, at least there's a painter's accessory there as well (no, I'm not an art teacher).

Oh dear. Sorry about that.

Circe or even Chart are fine, CC I can deal with. Don't know how I feel about 'reuse -- maybe I like it.

I prefer just Poppy. Poppy Red (my whole name) is good too of course, though I would also respond just to Red.

TStuff- love your new image!

If anyone feels like shortening thistle, more power to you. I think "stle" is worth a shot.

I think Poppy is one of the best names, can't imagine using Red instead.

No desire to shorten Thistle, but thanks, stle for offering.

Mahg, now I'm thinking Mahjong. Will you respond to that as well?
