I'm a doctoral student, but just started moonlighting as a pet sitter and off-leash-dog-hiker, and I have to say that it is way better than I imagine grape picking would be, even in the South of France.

Twilight - I love the idea of such a panel! I don't know if it has much merit in the domain of research, but conferences are filled with panels related to professionalization so it seems it would fit. Maybe the theme would be to see how people can incorporate the roads not taken into the road they did take.. especially after getting tenure.

it's good to know that other disenchanted graduate students dream of escaping to the south of france. my fantasy is a combination between yours (south of france) and twilight blue's (goat cheese, garden herbs, wine sipping). holy crap!
i must say, that particular fantasy gets me through some tough times. (and yeah, ditto cerise)
